Professional Oral Hygiene

Professional oral hygiene is a mechanical method of removing bacterial plaque and supra- and subgingival tartar that have accumulated on the surfaces of the teeth, as well as pigmented plaque. It is recommended to be performed before dental treatment, be it prosthetics, endodontic, orthodontic treatment, filling, teeth whitening, oral surgery, dental implantation, and so on.

Oral hygiene is the practice of keeping the mouth clean, considered the best means of preventing caries, gingivitis, periodontitis, and other dental diseases. Oral hygiene consists of both personal and professional care.

So, how is professional hygiene carried out?

There is a special set of tools that are used depending on the specific clinical case. As we see - it is all individual.

Firstly, an examination is conducted to assess the condition of the oral tissues. This involves clinical and radiological checks and the formulation of an action plan.

Secondly, depending on the anamnesis data, individual tooth sensitivity, the condition of dental deposits, a decision is made to perform infiltration anesthesia in the problem area to reduce discomfort.

After conducting preparatory measures, the actual cleaning begins.

First, an ultrasonic scaler with thin attachments is used to remove stones. Then, if there are deep periodontal pockets, the Scaler Root Planning procedure is carried out, which involves the removal of subgingival stones using special instruments - Gracey area-specific curettes.

So, the stones are removed, but the plaque remains. There are two options here: removal of dense pigmented plaque with the Air-Flow system or removal of pigmented plaque with paste and a silicone brush.

The final stage is teaching individual hygiene, recommendations, and selection of oral hygiene products.
