Professional oral hygiene

Professional oral hygiene is a mechanical method of removing bacterial plaque and supragingival and subgingival tartar accumulated on the surfaces of teeth, as well as pigmented plaque, which is recommended before dental treatment, be it: prosthetics, endodontic, orthodontic treatment, filling, teeth whitening, oral surgery, dental implantation.

Oral hygiene is the practice of keeping the mouth clean and is considered the best way to prevent tooth decay, gingivitis, periodontitis and other dental diseases. Oral hygiene consists of both personal and professional care.

So how is professional hygiene carried out?

There is a special set of tools that are used depending on the specific clinical case. As we see, everything is individual.

First, an examination is performed to assess the condition of the oral tissues. To do this, a clinical and radiological examination is carried out and an action plan is drawn up.

Secondly, depending on the medical history, individual sensitivity of the teeth, and the state of dental plaque, a decision is made to conduct infiltration anesthesia in the problem area in order to reduce discomfort.

After carrying out the preparatory measures, proceed directly to the cleaning.

First, an ultrasonic scaler with thin tips is used to remove stones. Then, if there are deep periodontal pockets, the Scalier Root Planning procedure is performed, which consists of removing subgingival stones using special instruments - Gracie zone-specific curettes.

So, the stones were removed, but plaque remained. There are two options: removing dense pigmented plaque with the Air-Flow system or removing pigmented plaque with a paste and silicone brush.

If necessary, fluoridation of teeth is used using a special preparation and mouth guards.

And the final stage is training in individual hygiene, recommendations and selection of oral hygiene products.
